Barb has a unique approach with lessons in asking both the rider and horse to follow through with what is being asked.  Riding is not easy.  However frustrating it may seem to get it right, she can identify what needs to be corrected and how to fix it.  When talking through corrections, it may sound silly but when adjustments are made, both rider and horse are able to communicate and understand what is being asked – it really does make sense!    Brilliant Reflection Farm is a facility that is professional, clean and organized - its a great place to learn and have fun at the same time.

Brilliant Reflection Farm is an outstanding boarding facility. Big, all-day turnouts with horses matched up so they all get along and thrive with their buddies. My horse, Anikah, gets the best feed and care available for the price, and there is dressage training available and flexibility if you are of another persuasion. You can bring in your own trainer, as well. Barb (co-owner with her husband Brian) is the dressage trainer and she is a very calm, quiet excellent dressage trainer. She rode Anikah in her first show since I've owned her last September, and in six first level classes, Anikah and Barb won first in four classes and second & third in the remaining two, earning the Reserve Champion in First Level at the shows! I was so proud. Please come out and look. You'll love what you see!   Karyl Clock

After having taken 8 years off from riding, I’ve started riding under Barbra’s instruction which has helped me regain confidence and strive to be a better rider.  Barbra has been extremely patient and encouraging in my quest to get back in shape and work towards competing once again.  She knows when I need a little push and how to get me through challenges that I’m unsure about.  Barbra has offered one of her horses for lease which is giving me the opportunity to learn from a well trained and patient teacher.  I look forward to learning the art of dressage and potentially getting back into the show ring in the future.  Thanks Barb!!   Cindy Rzepka

Dear Barb,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your help with Reporter.  I struggled for so many years with him, trying to make him do something I don’t believe he enjoyed.  I feel like we have found our groove working with you and focusing on Dressage.

I have taken lessons with several good, and some not so good, trainers over the past 10 years.  I am very happy with the instruction and training that we get from you.  Your instruction is clear and constructive and you are always willing to answer the same questions over again with sincere patience.

There are so many people out there who call themselves trainers.  It is so refreshing to be working with someone who has very specific education and certification in the field of equine studies, training, and dressage.  I also appreciate the fact that you are a competitor yourself, this helps because you not only understand my drive to be competitive you also have the ability to get on my horse and work him (us) through issues I may not be able to get a handle on.

Finally, Brilliant Reflection Farm is a beautiful environment to be in.  In addition to its beauty, everything is very clean and organized.  I can see the gleam in Reporter’s eye that had been lost.  I believe he is as happy with you as I am!

Thanks so much! Erica Ward

"Barb, I had to write to tell you how beautiful you looked riding Alie yesterday. You will take people's breath away when you compete with her.  I knew Alie was capable of doing it...she just needed the right person to ride her. Like I said....there are no Friesian mares being ridden at 1st level. There aren't many Friesians period, so this is quite momentous. I just want you to know how much I appreciate your talent. Neither Alie nor I were given the proper tools before coming to you. Now at least I know what to do, and its up to me to make it work!" Nora Kenneth

"My primary goal when I started training with Barb was to get my mare to go more forward. She immediately zeroed in on what I needed to do, while communicating information in a clear, easy to understand manner that doesn’t overwhelm the rider. When I saw a photo she took during my third lesson, I couldn’t believe the length of my mare’s stride. Now she’s helping me to gain the confidence I need to keep getting that stride, while overcoming old habits and improving my position.

It’s obvious that Barb not only enjoys teaching, she’s dedicated to every aspect of her operation, especially the health and well-being of the horses. My family was very impressed with her farm, and when the husband and kids notice, that’s something!" Cathleen Hagen

"As an adult who didn't her take first riding lesson until she was 30, I've had a lot of catching up to do.  I tried trailing riding and hunt seat, and finally realized dressage was the discipline to pursue.

From 2005 to 2008, Barb's instruction assisted me to a solid start in the basics of dressage, and helped me achieve significant improvements in my riding. It is especially well-suited for adults who want to understand the theory behind why you do certain things as well as the "how" to do them.

But most importantly, she found my current horse Longfellow (aka Henry) for me and coached us on our early journey to creating a solid partnership.  In our third show, we achieved a 65% and 8's on several elements of the tests, including the free walk.

I especially appreciate the order, cleanliness and discipline of Brilliant Reflection Farm, with the Reis' focus on safety and top-notch care for the animals." Marilyn LeFeber

Dear Barb and Brian,

First we want to thank you for taking such excellent care of our horses, Wally and Draven. They have never been healthier or happier. Your farm is impeccable! Everything is so neat and clean and beautiful. As boarders we really appreciate having such a place to come to. I cannot think of another barn we've been to that can compare. Second, Barb, we would like to thank you for being such a kind and courteous trainer. You have boosted our confidence immensely and made riding enjoyable again. Third, we'd like to thank you for making Brilliant Reflection such a warm and inviting place. We truly feel at home.

Thank you, Clarissa and Kitty Schulz

Thanks to Barbra Reis and Brilliant Reflection Farm, Sky is now officially a Canadian!

"We had been trying to sell our Thoroughbred mare for a few months, but with her lack of training and experience in showing, we were unable to get any leads. In December of 2008 I was "surfing" Google to find a dressage training facility when I came across Brilliant Reflection Farm in Ortonville , MI .  They were close by so I thought I'd give them a try.  With their informative, user friendly website, I read that they had several consignment options available, most all of which included training and showing options.

The next day, I phoned Barbra and told her our story.  She set up a date to come down and try our horse for herself in order to see if she would be 'saleable'.  The next day her husband came and trailered her back to Brilliant Reflection Farm.  By the following Monday, January 5th, 2009, she had Sky listed on her own website, as well as placing her as the "featured horse" on her monthly e-newsletter (which reaches hundreds of people nationwide), along with photos and a video, as well as Sky's sale information on several other websites. That same day she started training her as well.  She also, took care of all of the aspects of showing Sky to potential buyers... we had nothing to worry about.

Sky was treated with remarkable care and respect.  She put on weight and toned muscle mass.  She seemed very happy in her spacious pasture and comfortable in her stall.  Sky seemed quite relaxed when we would go to see her.  It was easy to see she was happy being there.

February 15th, Barbra showed Sky in her first schooling show with marks in the low 60's!  Since Barbra had done such a remarkable job with her in such a short amount of time, we decided to keep her there another month, in which time Barbra showed Sky again in the March schooling show.

After just three people coming to see and ride her, the third time was a charm.  The rider and Sky hit it off remarkably.  By the end of the second week of April, Sky was on her way to Canada .  Barbra taking care of all of the paperwork involved in the sale.

Whether it is training for yourself, training for your horse, or to make a sale of your Equine friend.  I would recommend Barbra and Brilliant Reflection Farm to anyone.  ~The Cutlers,  Commerce, MI

"Barb was the agent for my new horse, Uriel, and with her advice, I have selected the perfect horse for me! I must admit, I was somewhat hesitant to purchase a horse via the internet, but am extremely please with the results.

Throughout the entire assessment and purchase process, Barb was prompt and thorough in her responses, proactive in addressing my many questions, supportive of providing me with the time and opportunity to make a complete and thorough decision. She was particularly helpful with logistics during my trip to her farm, and was highly supportive with providing contacts for services such as vets and horse transport.

I would recommend Barb to anyone looking to find their special horse." Anne Rathbun, Ocala, FL

"My horse, Topper, had to have a stifle surgery after an accident with a fence. I was so nervous about the rehabilitation, knowing that whether he took a sound step or not, I would be excessively concerned and worried about him. I knew I would drive myself crazy with starting him back to work. The perfect solution came along when I met Barb at a dressage show. After discussion and me doing a reference check, she boarded Topper for me and started him back to work and did the rehabilitation for me. I was so comfortable with Topper staying at Brilliant Reflection Farm. Every time I visited him, he was contented and well-cared for. I felt like he was being taken care of just as I would myself. As an added bonus, the other boarders at the barn were friendly and along with Barb and Brian, made me feel welcome.  At the beginning of the next show season, Topper was ready to go! "

"I purchased my first horse, Danny in 2005.  After the excitement of the purchase, I realized that I needed to find just the right trainer who specialized in young horses to help get us started. As luck would have it I found Barb and Brian! Danny and I have been at Brilliant Reflection Farm for over two years and we couldn't be any happier. In the beginning Barb had us focus on ground manners, lunging, never pushed Danny or I past our limitations.

In May 2006 we celebrated Danny's 3rd birthday and began working under saddle. Since this is the first time I have trained a baby I am astonished with how smoothly it has gone. I am very pleased with how quickly we are progressing and attribute a large amount of our success to Barb's patient and thorough training.

The farm itself is something out of a story book, immaculate, cozy and people friendly. There are no pretenses at this farm, people come her because they love horses and they want to learn. I am always amazed with the attention to detail that Barb and Brian put into the farm and care that is given to the horses. Just this past weekend I was concerned because the temperature had risen to 100 degrees and I went to the farm so I could hose Danny off. To my surprise Brian had already attended to her.

Barb and Brian have grown into close friends of mine and everyday I remind myself of how lucky I am to know them." Jennifer Maull

"One of my favorite things about riding at Brilliant Reflection Farm is how at home I feel there. Since day one, I’ve felt one hundred percent comfortable here. The farm is beautiful and I love the peaceful atmosphere. Also, Barb is an amazing trainer. She is extremely personable and explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. I feel that under her guidance I will be able to reach my full potential as a rider." Keri Fermoyle

"My first impression of Brilliant Reflection Farm was not only that the facility was clean and well organized, but how happy and "alive" the horses all seemed.

Barb's warm demeanor comes thru in her clear and encouraging teaching style. I have watched my 11 year old grow in confidence, independence and skill over the past several months. All of this makes the long drive from Royal Oak  worth it."    Susan Varady

Barb Reis was probably the best thing to happen to me and my riding. We sat down and looked at my goals together and after a lot of thought and consideration, decided to purchase a new horse. Barb helped me find the perfect horse to fit my goals and my riding.

When I started riding with her my scores were in the low 50's but now they are in the high 60's and I am placing in every class I enter.  Her patient and knowledgeable training methods are definitely paying off! I have never been happier with my and my horse's progress.  A short while ago, I never would have seen myself where I am now. My riding has improved by leaps and bounds and continues to do so. My horse is extremely happy with the excellent, personal care he receives. You can tell by his work ethic and attitude.

The atmosphere of the barn is one of a kind. I have yet to see a farm that is as well run and friendly as Brilliant Reflection Farm." Andrea Lawrence

"As a parent, I have been very pleased with the instruction my daughter has received from Barb.  My daughter's riding has progressed significantly since working with Barb.  I appreciate the calm, patient manner in which Barb provides instruction/lessons. I also appreciate the meticulous care that is given to our young new horse. We can feel good knowing that he is going to get off to a good start."  Julie Lawrence

“After just four lessons with Barb Reis I can already see a tremendous improvement in my horse, Fable. Her patience and experience with young horses helps me understand what Fable is doing and how we can improve. When I first got him I saw potential but I never knew that he would come along so nicely in just a few weeks. Not only is the training first-class, she provides the best care for the horses possible with an outstanding facility.

I am looking forward to see how Fable will perform in the future with more of Barb’s training. By looking at all of the other horses at Brilliant Reflection Farm, I’m sure it will be very gratifying.”
Heather DuFour

“Being a new horse owner and new to the world of Dressage; Barb has been a wonderful resource for us.  We have leveraged her knowledge and advice to get our horse into a well regimented diet and training plan.  Barb takes a holistic approach in training to insure that the rider and horse are trained properly.” Greg DuFour

I met Barb in 2005. I had recently suffered a pretty traumatic injury and was looking for a place to regain my confidence as a beginning adult rider. Brilliant Reflection Farm was just that place!! Barb was extremely patient, understanding and sympathetic to my needs (and fears). She took “baby steps” with me as I regained my confidence. There was never any hurry or pressure to progress faster than I was ready. I truly believe if it were not for Barb's willingness to help me overcome my fears, I would not be the confident novice rider that I am today.” Melissa Bassett

"After being at Brilliant Reflection Farm for just 2 months (September 2006), Barb helped my riding in so many ways. Before everything was fuzzy and I was a little confused but Barb has made everything crystal clear. When we work on something new she always helps me as much as she can because I can’t always get it right away. She is very patient and always takes as long as you need until you know exactly what she is talking about. I feel great about my riding every time I ride and always feel that we accomplished something new or made something better from before.

The horses are treated with the best care possible. I don’t know one horse that is not happy. The horses are always positive when you come and get them from the pasture. They always have clean water buckets, a nice shelter from wind, rain, and snow, and they always have green fields to graze. The horses always have buddies to play with in the field. All of the horses have the best personal care. They are always looking and feeling top notch.

The facility is as clean and organized as possible. The heated tack room is very nice and clean.   It is also large enough so that you can fit all of your belongings comfortably. The isle way is very clean at all times and the stalls are so clean it’s like walking into horse heaven! The whole barn is completely organized so it is easy to find anything that you may need. I have seen many barns in the past summer and none can match Brilliant Reflection’s pleasant, clean, organized, horse friendly environment." Kathleen Kinnie

"My daughter and I have recently started riding at Brilliant Reflection Farm (Sept 2006) and it has been a terrific experience.  Barb Reis has such an upbeat attitude that it is a joy to work with her.  Her communication, organization, and people skills are outstanding.  She is a very understanding and patient trainer.  I believe that Barb’s positive personality sets the tone for the whole barn.

The facility is gorgeous, immaculate, and well organized.  All of the riders, owners, and parents at the barn have been very friendly.  They have made us feel welcome since the first day we started". Kris Kinnie

"Barb Reis is a rarity in the horse world.  I have never know such a patient and kind instructor.  She will go to great lengths to make her students comfortable, from personally buying a suitable horse for them to take lessons on, to making sure the pantry is stocked with goodies to keep them comfortable at the farm.  She is well suited to the timid rider who wants to succeed.

The care the horses receive at Brilliant Reflection Farm is unmatched.  They simply thrive.  The place is immaculate; period!  I always leave a little surprised at all the amenities the farm has because it is so relaxing and unassuming there.  Barb and Brian work seamlessly together and their commitment to dressage via hosting clinics and schooling shows is a wonderful benefit to all who partake." Tracie Montgomery

"Brilliant Reflection Farm is one of the nicest facilities I have ever had the privilege to ride at.  The barn is kept impeccably clean, the tack room is neat, spacious and heated, and the riding arena is always groomed and the footing is first rate.

Since Barb used to sit on the board of the Michigan Dressage Association, students and boarders are kept up to date on shows, clinics and happenings in the horse world.  Also, the farm hosts clinics and schooling shows which are nice for students and boarders who would prefer not to trailer their horse out to participate."  Kristin Macaroni
