JUST A HORSE

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a horse," or, "that's a lot of money for just a horse".
They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent or the costs involved for "just a horse." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a horse."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a horse," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a horse," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a  horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you think it's "just a horse," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a horse" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from
being "just a woman/man."

My life has been full of many horse - a few of which have a special place in my heart. Here's some of the most memorable.
Aspen     My very first horse. He was owned by Black River Farm and Ranch and I brought him home for the winter. I did everything with him - trail riding, jumping and alot of bareback riding.
Sky Eshelon     Sky was my first purchase as an adult. Got him from Windshire Riding Academy. I took him to college with me in New Jersey my senior year.
Clever Kid

Vic was a very special horse. I bought him in Pennsylvania and brought him back to Michigan. We did hunters and then dabbled in eventing. We won the 1991 SunRay Perpetual Trophy which was for the professional horse and rider combination with the highest points for the year. He really didn't like dressage, so he moved farther west to Chicago to foxhunt.
Junior     Junior was owned by Elaine Ludwig. He introduced me to the excitement of eventing  and got me hooked! He was a great teacher and lived a full life.
Brilliant Guise

B.G. got me involved in dressage by accident. He was a huge Paint/TB that I purchased as a yearling. I started out doing hunter/jumpers with him and found he had a niche for dressage. We got up to 2nd Level and I sold him to make way for.....
Brilliant Reflection

....Blake. I have to say this is the most special horse I have ever owned. I think so much of him that I named the farm after him! He was unbroke when I bought him and has such talent that I can't wait to move up the levels. We received the Championship at Second Level Open our 2nd time showing 2nd Level.
Loan's Leonardo

In 2005 I leased the Trakehner gelding Loan's Leonardo (by Merkur) and in addition to obtaining the High Percentage for Training (tied with Brilliant Reflection) and First Level Open at the Chelsea Dressage Days show, received (2) Reserve Championships during the show year for First Level Open at the Waterloo Hunt Dressage Shows. We even received a '9' on a free walk in First Level Test 4 with a score of 68%.

I went horse hunting for a client and found Baron. Or shall I say, he found me. Baron has a personality that is one in a million! He was a jumper in his previous life and after realizing he didn't have to leap for his lunch, decided dressage was his forte.
Brilliant Portrayl

I found him when I wasn't looking for another horse.  He was an unbroke 5 year old, taught him the basics of dressage thru First Level and found him a great home in 2008.

A BIG, beautiful Hanoverian, Wy came into my life when I was least expecting it! I am NOT a mare person and this girl captured my heart:) We have SUCH a GREAT bond it's amazing. She received (3) 8's and a 9 at her first USDF show in 2008!
